The Cents of Summer

Canadian Cents

With nice weather and long weekends fast approaching, we could all use a couple extra bucks for a drink on the patio or a trip up north.

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and time is ticking. The summer months can fly by in Canada so we need to do what we can to make the most out of the nice weather and sometimes that requires us to stretch a loonie just a bit further. Lets look at some ways to save some money to allow for the enjoyment of the finer things in life.

Open up:

It is simply too nice to not open up the windows and let the fresh air in. Turning off the air conditioning can be a great way to save some money in the summer while taking full advantage of nice weather. So open up some windows, get a refreshing cross-breeze running through the house and even turn on one or two fans. This solution will help the environment and your pocketbook.

Hang-em out to dry:

Drying machines can be huge energy wasters and, just like the AC, can run up the cost of an electricity bill. The solution: hang your clothes outside! For those that are extra cost conscious and do not want to invest in a clothes hanger, simply tie a string/chord to some posts or trees. This will have your clothes smelling fresh, crisp and clean. If you haven’t tried it yet, you don’t know what your missing out on.

Cut the chord:

In case you are still on the fence about whether cancelling cable is worthwhile, here is another great reason to cancel that expensive bill: It is keeping you inside! With all of the nice weather, do you really need something that is going to keep you in a dark basement? As an added bonus, the chances are pretty high that if you want to reconnect in the winter, the service providers will offer a better deal than you currently have in order to entice you to join up again.

Enjoy the outdoors:

There are so many outdoor activities that can be done for next to nothing and the longer you are outside of the house, the less energy you are using and the less cable and internet you need. Increasing time outdoors can allow you the opportunity to cut down on other expenses while being active and making the most out of some of the best months of the year.
