Derek GatesDerek trained as a mechanical engineer and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce in International Business from the University of Victoria.
Derek has 15 years in the financial services industry, eleven of those years as an investment advisor and discretionary portfolio manager with Raymond James, HSBC Securities and Scotiabank. He holds a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Canadian Investment Manager (CIM), and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Mr. Gates is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and a member of the Calgary Chartered Financial Analyst Society.
In 2005, Mr. Gates founded Sustainable Wealth Management Ltd to help investors around the world to invest in the high-growth industries in the energy sector. SWM Ltd is an index provider focused on developing unique industry specific fundamental indices for institutions and retail investors. The most popular index is the Sustainable Oil Sands Sector Index TM which is the basis for several publicly listed funds in North America and Europe including Claymore’s Oil Sands Sector ETF, symbol CLO on the TSX.
