Betty & Dale Ennis
In May, 1981 a prototype of MoneySaver was produced and Dale began to visit the various media to get a reaction. The reaction was favourable. In June 1981, articles about this project appeared in local newspapers, and national daily papers. Guest spots on phone-in talk shows, FM radio programs, and television newscasts helped spread the word. The September 1981 issue was distributed to 528 subscribers. Sample copies were sent to the financial institutions (banks, trust companies, and credit unions), libraries throughout the province, major newspapers across Canada, radio stations, consumer groups, various associations and individuals. Dale states: "Later MoneySaver was read coast to coast with subscribers in all ten provinces. Therefore, it was renamed Canadian MoneySaver to reflect this national distribution. Canadian MoneySaver continues to grow. I felt good about this whole project. I did it on my own, with my own financing and without the help of advertisers. We actually had sufficient subscribers when our first issue was released to cover our expenses!" Canadian MoneySaver |
